lesson # 23 Summary with unspeakable joy!

Only twice in my life have I really appreciated the number 23, ending this lesson and when I was 23 :)). The lesson was not that hard, but I could not get to them every week, so keeping up was one of my challenges. Some of my favorites discoveries was that I could actually do this lesson and it was not as hard as I thought. I am a little intimidated when it comes to technology. As far as my goals I plan to take advantage of some of the websites that interest me and use them for practice, personal or business purposes. I have a log at my desk of potential websites. This was a real learning experience for me, but I did not like signing up for every site just to complete the lesson and some required several attempts. Most of those I'd probably would not use again.
I would most definitely repeat this class and recommend you offer more computer learning skills at our desk top making it interesting. Practice makes perfect and builds confidence in what you do. I can recommend some websites to customers, friends and family. Of course I would need more experience, because I know there will be questions and I would feel foolish not knowing the answers.
I'm looking forward to my MP3 player and with that, overdrive is on the top of my list of things to do.

Overdrive #22

I would love to use the Overdrive to download books but it's not compatible to my iPod, and even if it was compatible we can't
access or download Overdrive to our work computers. I have read the instructions and looked at some of the titles on the websites, best-sellers are listed. I would probably download some materials from Overdrive, just to know how it works, if I had the right audio player. I really can't rate the site because I've never used it. In the past I've had customers to call regarding the Overdrive and staff had limited knowledge. I am not comfortable with the Overdrive at this point and time. When I get my MP3 player, I'm sure I'll feel more confident after using the overdrive for myself.

Lesson # 20 YouTube

I like YouTube. I get lots of video through email from this website, news, entertainment, personal, and comical. The only concern is while watching the videos they are sometimes fuzzy or the video freezes for a moment or two. I wish it was some kind of construction that would eliminate these problems. I did I say sometime this happens? What I mean is most of the time this happens. But it's one of the most favorite websites known and used.

Here is one of my favorites "The Gay Weatherman" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TPc4p7uxEs

Just for fun

Web 2.0 Awards #19

http://www.seomoz.org/web2.0 http://www.flickr.com/

http://answers.yahoo.com/ http://www.fixya.com/

I will be doing more research on these websites. There are lots of resources stored on Seomoz and not enough time to examine the features. But so far I've checked out the Yahoo Answers and that was ok, I would definitely recommend that to teens. Fixya is not my cup of tea, maybe my husband would be interested in this web on repairs and technical stuff. Flickr is ok, that was one of the lessons and it's easy, even for a beginner like me. I had no interest in this stuff until I started these lessons. I guess that's whole the purpose.

Zoho Writer and documents #18

Note: From the GRR

Thank you for volunteering to work in the GRR of the Main Library on Sundays. GRR can be a fun and busy place for someone who is self motivated, alert, disciplined, and compuer literate. Our goal is to provide outstanding service to our customers-assisting the to sign-on the Pharos, to print, to access websites, and to use various Microsoft office products. GRR staff must also ensure that JPL policies for omputer and Internet use and the code of conduct are followed.

In an effort to make you more aware of your responsibilities during your temporary Sunday assignments, the GRR staff helped me compose a list of do's and don'ts. I hope this will assist you in making the most of your time there.

Lesson # 18 Zoho Doc
Zoho Writer is pretty interesting. I played around with documents and it reminded me of Word in some ways. It offers severals features. It offers links for simple tasks, planners, things to do, customer invoices, business, company invoices and keeping records on paying personal bills. I also thought of Quick books while messing around. It has a lot to offer.

Favorites #17

Let's start with my favorite vacation, driving to Virginia. The sites, dining at various restaurants, shopping and some areas of town reminded me of home. But most of all spending time with family. Although we have visited many restaurants, I still have fond memories of RL. We had some good times there on girls night out. I also love my spin class at the gym. My instructor keeps us so pumped up. And last but not least I love a good worship service, when I can actually feels God's presents. I'm a very simple woman.

Wikis #16

I use Wikipedia for some basic research for library customers, because it goes directly to the requested subject and so far it as been helpful. I think online community websites are ok for maybe team members, groups, staff, organizations, but for everyone to have access to add or delet this could be a problem. With spammers, people with malicious motives, and pranksters. To have a online community without registration or doing some can of check to make sure their not some kind of "nut" would be advisable. Some people really rely on that information and use it for education, profession and self knowledge. It should be supervised before posting, they maybe giving false information. I know wikis is for quick information, but somehow we should make sure it's valid. But that's me. Google is good, but sometime it may have 2000 :)) links to the subject or question.

Into the new world of Librarianship (#15)

As I read a couple of the perspective on this lesson, I personally am amazed on how libraries have change throughout the years. Libraries are improving and constantly adding accessible information for our customers. Customers can read books online, download music to technical devices, upload pictures and my favorite "GOOGLE". Well,GOOGLE was my
favorite until I started working with Library Learning Web 2.0.
I think the library system is going to continue to be an asset to
customers now and in the future.
Note: Staff will need the training to assist customers as we advance in technology.

Technorati lesson #14

This site was not easy at all and it was time consuming. Here we are again joining another website this time it was like a battle.
I knowTechnorati is used without cease for some(I viewed some of the blogs), but I have no need for this type of technology at the present time and if I do have a required need for this kind of help in the future. I hope it's not as complicated. I know some websites believe in high security, but this was almost maximum.

BookMarking lesson # 13

I do find social bookmarking handy. I really did not think of it as social bookmarking when sending friends and family websites to view what I thought they would enjoy. Bookmarking comes in handy when searching and surfing the Internet for information. Especially information you may not use that often. I have bookmarked my regular websites on my portal and have several saved into Favorites. I don't see much use for Delicious. I'm pretty satisfied with how I'm keeping track of my sites now. But, it was something different.

Jaxcat # 12

This was another easy lesson and amazing. I put in my search from my blog Jaxcat Gadget blog and it took me to the JPL catalog. This is another one that I enjoyed doing with some excitement. I feel I'm on a roll now !!

Library Thing #11

I enjoyed working with this lesson. I needed little help and I can also use it to keep track of the books I have read and want to read. I would most definitely use this site and recommend it to others. I am keeping a listing of the sites that I will use again. This one really caught my interest.

Image Generator

RSS Feeds

I don't want to be repetitious, but I did not like the Feeds anymore than I like the bloglines. I don't find myself using this in the future. It would be easier just to bookmark my favorite websites. The complications are not worth the trouble or the time spent. Most of my favorite sites did not have RSS Feeds and I really have no use for this site. I bookmark anyway.

Technology # 7

The things I like about technology is it's convenience. You can do just about anything online. You can shop, pay bills, make contact through email all over the world. I use the Internet for personal and professional searches, task and projects. I have classes that are set-up online and short cuts to websites I use daily. I can sit at my computer and take care of most of my business and help others. Now the down side of the this wonderful piece of equipment is losing stored information, computers will freeze and they also will crash. Then you are subject to lose valuable information or years of research.

Flickr Second Assignment on #6

Not much to say on this assignment, I'm still learning. I will say it is very interesting finding images, posting and making changes using Flickr. I chose angels because of my interest and belief in these divine creatures.

Flicker

I found Flicker to be easy with some coaching. Uploading pictures was cool. This site will come in handy for future use. Tagging makes it easier to find the unlimited pictures I have download and uploaded. The technology is amazing for personal and professional use. It's much easier than I thought it would be. I like it!!!
